## Frequently asked questions (FAQ)
### App & usage
**How do I add a new contact?**
Tap the plus icon (“+”) on the **Contacts** tab. You’ll be guided through two steps: first name, birthday, relationship, and optional note; then interests and personality traits. Tap **Save** to create the contact.
**Where do I find gift ideas?**
Either via the **Gift ideas** tab (select a person there) or in the contact details under the **Gift ideas** button. The AI generates suggestions based on that person’s interests, notes, and personality traits.
**My data is gone – what can I do?**
With **guest use**, all data is stored only on your device. After uninstalling the app or clearing app data, it cannot be recovered. With **Sign in with Apple**, data may be available again when you sign back in (depending on your device and iCloud settings). We do not store your content on our own servers.
**Can I use the app in another language?**
Yes. GiftMind supports **German** and **English**. The language follows your device’s language setting.

### Pro version & subscription
**How do I activate the Pro version?**
In the app: **Profile** → **Unlock Pro** (or when you hit a free limit, e.g. maximum contacts). You’ll be taken to the paywall where you can subscribe monthly or annually. Payment is through your Apple account.
**How do I cancel my subscription?**
The subscription is billed by **Apple**. You can only cancel there:
**Settings** → **Apple ID** (at the top) → **Subscriptions** → **GiftMind** → **Cancel subscription**.
Cancelling by email to us is not enough. After you cancel, the subscription runs until the end of the period you’ve already paid for; then you automatically switch back to the free version.
**I’ve paid but Pro isn’t active.**
In the app, go to **Profile** and tap **Restore purchases**. If it still doesn’t work: In **iOS Settings** → **Subscriptions**, check whether GiftMind is listed as active. For billing issues, contact **Apple Support** (support.apple.com), as Apple is the contracting party for payment.

### Notifications & reminders
**I’m not getting reminders.**
Make sure **GiftMind** is allowed to send notifications: **iOS Settings** → **Notifications** → **GiftMind** → enable notifications. In the app: **Profile** → **Reminders** – you can see the status and send a test push. If it says “Disabled” or “Not determined”, turn on the permission in system settings.
**Can I change which days I get reminders?**
Yes, in the **Pro version**: **Profile** → **Reminders** → **Reminder days** (or manage subscription / reminder days). You can choose e.g. 30, 14, 7, and 1 day before the birthday. In the free version there is only one reminder (30 days before).

### Technical
**The app crashes or doesn’t respond.**
- Fully close the app and open it again.
- Update iOS to the latest version.
- If it continues: restart your device.
If the problem persists, please email us with your device (e.g. iPhone 15, iOS 18.x) and a short description of what happens.
**Gift ideas aren’t loading.**
The AI gift ideas need an internet connection. Also check: have you added interests and/or notes for the selected person? The more information, the better the suggestions. In the free version you can only generate ideas for a limited number of people; for more, you need the Pro version.
